Yoga is for EVERY BODY, I mean it. There are so many ways to create a yoga practice that is tailored to you. Creativity is key when it comes to doing this.
Any "normal" yoga pose can be altered with props like a chair, yoga blocks, a yoga ball or bolster. This is a great way to invigorate your yoga practice, and meet yourself where you are now. Chair yoga is here for you, for everyone. Even practiced yogis can benefit from doing chair yoga! In yoga, and way that you can integrate sensation with breath and come to terms of presence, is a good way to be doing yoga. SO if you are feeling like you aren't flexible enough to do yoga, you are wrong. You aren't flexible enough yet to do the poses which you consider yoga. But you ARE human, and human bodies can become flexible. So you may be starting with low flexibility, and that is amazing. Beginning a self care routine of awareness and intention is the beginning of immense flexibility in your body and mind. If you spend a-lot of time in a chair, give yourself 5 to 10 minutes each day to move around in that chair, to squeeze, tense, and release your muscles from the position they are so used to. As in the opening image, a simple spinal twist in your chair is a great place to start! |
